What is a “Filzmedaille” (Felt Medal)?
The Filzmedaille (not to be confused with the Fields Medal ;) ) is our prize for good teaching. With it, we want to recognise lecturers who stand out with their teaching.
How does the awarding process work?
We ask students which teachers’ teaching they particularly liked. Based on this survey, we look at the most frequently mentioned lecturers, whereby any comments that might’ve been added by students are also considered. We then meet with those lecturers for an interview to find out more about them and their teaching philosophy. The final decision regarding who gets the award is made in a small group based on submissions and experiences of students. We take a look at all of that person’s teaching, we don’t decide based only on a single course.
Below, you will find links to short articles about each of the people we met with. It is based on information from student feedback, the interviews and, in some cases, a bit of personal experiences. Furthermore, all the teachers we interviewed kindly agreed to send us a picture for this website.

Special awards for dedication to teaching
These two awards were given to two lecturers who have repeatedly gone out of their way to teach or work for students in their free time.

Award ceremony
The winners were awarded with their medals as well as a Roter Vektor cup and some sweets on the 29th of June 2026 in the Vektorraum. More amazing lecturers who didn’t win this time
Of course, we would love to be able to award a teaching prize to all our good teachers! But, as that would defeat its purpose, we have limited ourselves to 2 medals in the education studies and 2 medals in the science studies (with an occasional special award, if justified).
