Roland Zweimüller
Professor Zweimüller wants to share enthusiasm, for him it is primarily about the practice: Every theorem is a result of lengthy collaborative work. You can definitely feel this in his classes. He always tries to explain the subject matter thoroughly, has a well thought out concept and designs his lectures to be the furthest thing from boring. Professor Zweimüller also always explains the idea first, leaving out unnecessarily complex details, which he adds afterwards. In his scripts this is also shown through his elaborate and narrative style.
He said himself that he wants to rid of the distance between teacher and student and build bridges from mathematical theory to reality. Moreover he mentioned that lectures are harder to prepare for, the earlier in the curriculum they are. In such instances he is aware of the need to explain and repeat the fundamentals, as it is ‘part of the analysis-education’.
Overall he wants to convey the ‘big picture‘ to his students. To achieve this, he often reflects about his teaching methods and tries to be as honest as possible when it comes to students’ questions and takes his time to really think about them, if necessary.
There was also lots of praise for Professor Zweimüller’s seminars. Students said, one could always notice how much time and thought was spent on each exercise. He is also very good at explaining in a very comprehensive manner. His interactions with students are said to be extremely friendly and always on eye level.
Surprisingly, Professor Zweimüller originally had not planned on going into mathematics. A very thorough analysis lecture early on in his computer science studies was able to convince him that mathematics could be interesting and fun as well. He also appreciates the emancipatory aspect of mathematics, as one can always learn and prove everything yourself.
