Welcome to the Faculty of Mathematics!
Study guides đ
Here you will find everything you need to know about your studies: information on enrolment, details on the registration phase, information on the StEOP and deadlines. ATTENTION, there are several versions:
Mathematical Foundations of Data Science (BSc)
There is only one for the winter semester (WiSe MFDS BSc study guide). Like with the Bachelor of Education, it is not recommended to start studying MFDS in the summer semester, especially since the entrance exam is only held in the summer.
Mathematics (BSc)
There are two versions, winter semester (WiSe Maths BSc study guide) and summer semester (SoSe Maths BSc study guide).
Teacher training program (BEd)
There is only one for the winter semester (WiSe BEd study guide). It is not recommended to start the BEd in the summer semester. More details can be found on the last page of the WiSe BEd study guide.
This study guide is for the new Bachelor of Education, for the old BEd see the outdated BEd study guide
Help us!
Unfortunately, the study guides for the BSc Maths and the BEd only exist in German. If you want to help us to translate them, and are interested in student representative work, come to the Plenum.
Orientation and study spaces at OMP
Youâre not very familiar with Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1 (our building) yet? Youâre looking for a space to study at our faculty? We have information about study spaces and floor plans here.
Food đŽ & Wifi đ
A very important topic, basic needs. Where can you eat? We collected some food options around our building. How to log in into the Wi-Fi (Eduroam) can be found on the ZID website about eduroam.
Journaldienst - Counselling
Here you can get advice regarding your study, or student life. There are certain opening hours during which someone is in our office. You can also print and bind scripts for a donation and find caffeine in any form as well as other drinks.
FAQ
We have a FAQ page for you, where you can gather some additional information.
Das Erstitut
Are you starting your studies at the Faculty of Mathematics this semester and the building, your fellow students and maybe even the city are new to you?
Then why not drop by the first-semester tutorium organised by the Mathematics studentsâ representatives! These are weekly (social, not about mathematical content) meetings of up to five groups on (ideally) Mon.-Thurs. The idea is to connect new students with each other so that they can learn together during their studies. At the same time, you get to know higher-semester tutors who can help you with questions. (Note: the Erstitut is mainly in the winter semester. In the summer semester, there is a âQuerstitutâ sometimes, but not always, as there arenât many new students in the summer semester.)
Note: Master students can find their own âmaster hangoutâ on the Master Hangout page.

What is the Erstitut?
At weekly meetings with tutors from higher semesters, we can tell you about everyday life as a student, share tips and tricks for studying maths and answer your questions. Above all, however, we also want to create a framework for networking with other first-semester students. Having a good study group is very helpful when studying mathematics, especially at the beginning! Of course, everyday student life is much more fun if you know a few people, too.
How do I take part?
The programme for the tutorials is varied and will be announced the weekend before.
Below you will find the introductory texts of the individual Erstitute. If you are interested in participating, join the WhatsApp groups, each Erstitut group has its own. IMPORTANT: You can attend as many groups/tutoriums as you like or join a different group every week.
If a group is too large, we will split it into two groups so that we can create a familial environment.
Kick-Off Event:
At the Kick-Off Event, all groups will introduce themselves personally. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to get to know the various tutors and spend some time with them. One or two games will certainly not be left out at this point.
We look forward to seeing everyone who comes. :)
Hard facts:
10.10.2025 18:30 Lecture hall 4.
First, all Erstitut groups introduce themselves, then we split into those groups, everyone picks the one they liked best and the first session can begin!
Afterwards, we go to the Mensafest, our semester opening party.
Donât be afraid to join the WhatsApp groups of the individual Erstitut groups! If you are late, feel free to join anyway. If you missed the Kick-Off Event or only found out about the Erstitut later, you can still join!

Student representative work đ€©
Would you like to join us and organize events for your fellow students, as well as help with general organizational matters? Come along to one of our plenary sessions (short: Plenum)! These are weekly meetings of the Roter Vektor Mathematik, where we discuss various topics, plans and problems that come with studentsâ representativesâ work.
When is the plenary session happening?
The regular weekdays of our plenary sessions for a certain semester are visible on our website. For more specific information on which date the next Plenum will be taking place on, check our calendar!
